birding4 Days L. Naivasha- L. Nakuru- L. Baringo- L. Bogoria
Day 1: Nairobi/ Lake Naivasha

Leave your Nairobi hotel for Lake Naivasha that is 84km north of Nairobi, this is the purest rift valley lake backdrop extinct volcanic Mt.Longonot in the

background. This lake was famous in 1930’s as a staging post for imperial Airways flying boat services from Durban to London. Arrive in time for Lunch. After lunch have an extensive tour of this Lake that is an ideal water resort for leisurely bird watching, 340 species of birds are recorded here and a large number of hippos. Fishing of tilapia and black boss, game watching at crescent island private game sanctuary gives visitors a chance to walk among small herds of plains game including water buck, dik dik and Thompson gazelle. Crescent Island is one of the few places in all Africa where you can wander on foot among herds of zebra, wildebeest, gazelle and giraffe because of the absence of predators. Return to the campsite or Lodge in time for dinner and overnight.

 

Day 2: Lake Naivasha/ Lake Nakuru

After breakfast drive to Lake Nakuru National park that is well known for its fantastic array of birdlife. On arrival, proceed for a game drive looking out for million of flamingoes and other water birds like pink backed pelicans, marabou stocks, egrets, Arrow – marked babbler, red headed weaver and other water birds that breed in the lake’s alkaline waters. A visit to baboon cliff offers a scenic panorama of the lake below, surrounded by a vast tract of euphorbia and acacia forest that gives a good chance of viewing plantain birds (birds that don’t breed in the alkaline waters). A wide variety of antelopes and other plain game like Cape buffalo, rothchild giraffe, white rhino, leopard, baboons and warthog can be seen in this park. This is the best place to view the Rothschild giraffe and the white rhino the endangered species. Dinner and overnight at the campsite or Lodge

Day 3: Lake Nakuru/ Baringo

Leave for lake Barigo after breakfast, on arrival have an hour’s boat ride which enables you to see hippos at close range and the bird life that inhabits this lake as over 350 species of birds have been recorded here including some that conform to a migratory pattern, as well as crocodiles and Egyptian gees which migrate all the way from western Europe. After lunch spend at leisure.

Day 4: Baringo/ Bogoria/ Nairobi

After breakfast, depart Lake Baringo for Lake Bogoria. This is a shallow soda lake home to a large number of birds and rare lesser kudu. Scalding hot springs and geysers at the southern end of the lakes spurt and steam their alkaline waters. The bubbling of hot springs, hundreds of singing weaverbirds and a million flamingos feeding in the bluish water present a rare scenic beauty. After lunch depart for Nairobi.

7 DAYS LAKE BARINGO / KAKAMEGA/ LAKE NAKURU/ LAKE NAIVASHA

Day 1: Nairobi / Lake Baringo

Pick up from your hotel and drive through Limuru tea farms descending to the floor of the Great Rift Valley with a brief stop at the view point. Arrive in time for lunch in this lake that is famous for its abundance of birdlife. This is one of two fresh waters lakes in the Rift valley and a bird watchers paradise- it has over 460 recorded bird species and a number of hippos. Check in and lunch at Lake Baringo country club of which room shave plenty of information on the areas bird life or campsite. A resident ornithologist leads walks before breakfast and in the evenings. Dinner and overnight at Lake Baringo country club or the campsite.

Day 2: Lake Baringo/ Bogoria

After breakfast, take a 1 hour bird watching trip by boat to the island to view more birds and hippos. On the Island you can organize short excursion at an extra cost to see the Njemps village (local tribe) and dancing or a local snake farm. After proceed to the nearby lake Bogoria 1 hour away. Day 3: Lake Baringo/ Kakamega

After breakfast, drive to Kakamega National reserve. This is the country’s only tropical rain forest and formed part of the dense rain forest that stretched from west Africa ,across central Africa and in to the highland areas East and West of the great rift valley. The forest is world renowned as home to several hundred species of birds including rare snake eating birds, insects, monkeys and other mammals as well as countless exotic tree species. Dinner and overnight at Kakamega golf club or campsite.

Day 4: Kakamega

After breakfast, spend full day in the Kakamega national reserve with bird walks accompanied by game wardens and our guide. Dinner and overnight

Day 5: Kakamega/ Lake Nakuru

Drive to Lake Nakuru National park after an early breakfast arriving at the Lake Nakuru in time for a late lunch. The park is a home to stunning flocks of lesser and greater flamingos which literally turn the lakeshores in to a magnificent pink stretch. The bird life here is world renown and over 400 birds’s species can be seen like, white pelicans and marabou stock, all water birds that breed in the lakes alkaline waters. You may also spot white rhino, rare Rothschild giraffe, and other plain game. Dinner and overnight at the lodge or campsite.

Day 6: Lake Nakuru/ Lake Naivasha

A pre-breakfast bird spotting drive in the park and around the lake before returning to the Lodge/ campsite for breakfast. Drive to hells gate national park with a brief stop at the Lake elementaita viewpoint. The lake is famous for its natural steaming geysers and a haven for birdwatchers. The walking/ hiking in the park gives one a sense of freedom, open space and a clear view of wildlife. The cliffs are breeding grounds for vultures, verreauxs eagles, augur buzzards and thousands of swifts. Over 120 species have been recorded here. Lunch at the lodge or campsite and the afternoon is spend at leisure either to explore the rich, bird filled gardens or an optional boat ride to the Crescent island (at extra cost). Dinner and overnight at the campsite/ lodge.

Day 7: Naivasha/ Nairobi

After leisurely breakfast, drive back to Nairobi and drop off at your Nairobi hotel or the airport.
